Less Than Precise Mouse Response

I use the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 on XP Home SP 2.

Over time, it seems to me that scrolling with this mouse is not as
precise as it used to be. When I first started using the mouse, the
slightest movement on the scroll wheel would scroll the page. I loved
that. Now I have to turn the mouse wheel further before the page starts
to scroll.

I'm open to any suggestions to improve the precision of the scroll wheel.

Change the mouse properties in the control pan for the scroll rate you want.

Thanks for helping me out.

AFAIK, the scroll rate determines how many lines the page scrolls as the
mouse wheel turns. My problem is that I need to turn the scroll wheel
more than previously to get /any/ page movement.

Can the scroll wheel be cleaned? Is my mouse just getting old?

It could be dirty, if you feel skillful then take it apart and clean it
inside. I would also check your driver version, 5.4 is right for you.The
newer version 6 is NOT for you tho.

I'm fine with taking the mouse apart for a cleaning.

I did not know that version 6 of Intellipoint is not appropriate for my
mouse. (Don't know why, though.) I'll try going back to 5.4 (or even
earlier), since version 6 doesn't add any new features that I can see.
