wireless networking problem

I have two computers in my house both with xp. The one
computer is hard wired to a wireless router and then to
my internet connection (all is fine there). The other
computer (which is new) has a wireless network card and
is able to access the interenet but I can not do any file
or print sharing. It does not see the workgroup or the
other computer.
Any ideas.

Christina,

Does either computer have ICF or a third party firewall? You need to
start by disabling ICF, and un installing any third party firewalls
(carefully and thoroughly, following all vendor procedures).

Put both computers in the same workgroup.

If XP Pro, setup (and use) a common account with identical password on
both computers.

Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

I ran into a problem with my third party firewall,
however I would not recommend uninstalling it. Instead
(if you have a 3rd party firewall) I would add the pcs
you are trying to access to the list of IP overrides (XP
does not offer this). This seemed to fix my problem. I
would certainly try this before uninstalling.
