I am with a school who recently got 100 laptops, all with WIFI, Now, I am
trying to make them work with our network. While plugged in they work,
connected., However with the wireless connection - I am able to see a
connection being made (signal strength, network name, ect.._) but not able
to connect to the internet.

So, one computer was being run on XP, works fine.. Windows 2000 machines
will not connect..

Anyone. Please, help me out and dont use a bunch of abbreviations.
thanks..

Since Windows 2000 does not have built-in wireless configuration you'll need
to peruse the documentation that came with whatever utility software these
laptops come with in order to determine how to properly configure them.

Hello,

The Wireless zero configuration supplicant is not included with Windows 2000
and is available in Win XP Sp-2 and Windows 2003 SP-1. You may wamt to
install a wireless supplicant provided by the wireless network adapter
vendor. Also make sure that your windows 2000 machines have the service pack
4. Also take a look at the KB article Number 313664

You should look at your Wireless Access point and see if it is using WPA
security. Windows 2000 doesn't support WPA and XP does. This might explain
why the XP machines work and the 2000 machines don't. You may need to switch
to WEP security. to get both OS's to access the AP.

Hope this helps,

Tim
