Wendy

I just purchased an HP laptop with Microsoft XP and
wireless Internet. I have a router in my home that allows
me to share my cable modem connection with all the
computers I have. My new laptop found the network, but it
asked for the password I have set on my router. When I
typed in the password, I received the following error
message "Network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits
depending on your network configuration. This can be
entered as 4 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hex
characters." My laptop can see the router (it shows a
strong connection and good speed) but it can't use it
because it won't take my password. Any ideas???

Hi, Wendy,
I think you need to reset your password (to be exact, WEP key) on the
wireless router, making sure you have typed exactly 26 hex characters (1-9,
A-F). (26 hex characters is recommended because it provides stronger
encryption protection for the wireless traffic than 10 hex characters. ) In
the Network Key dialog popped up in your laptop, you need to type in the
same 26 hex characters. Hopefully it will solve your problem.

Thx
Wai
