Hi,
I am trying to set up a wireless nework at home. I have one computer wired
(ethernet) to a D-link wireless router... from there wired to a D-link cable
modem. The other computer has a D-link wireless card. Both computers can surf
the internet but the will not ping each other, much less see each other on
the network. I believe they should be able to see each other to transfer
files, etc. Can anyone please help me to correct my problem?
Thanx,
Ron

The most likely problem is that a firewall on each computer is
blocking access from the other.

If the computers run the original or SP1 versions of Windows XP,
disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on local area
network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem connection
to the Internet. If they run SP2, turn the firewall on and allow
exceptions.

Disable and un-install all other firewall programs (Norton Internet
Security, ZoneAlarm, etc) while troubleshooting. When un-installing a
firewall program, use the un-install procedure provided by the
manufacturer . Don't use Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs,
which might not completely un-install it.
