Wireless Network - Can't Connect

In our house we have a wireless router and using vista i can't connect to it
using my USB 2.0 802.11g wireless adapter. i know the WEP Key is correct as
its saved in a Text file which i use for XP, and i tried turning security on
an off the router ( by directly connecting my laptop to it via a Ethernet
Cable). but what ever i try i get a tim out error when i try to connect.

Any one have any ideas? any settings that have to be changed?

I too have been having problems with my wireless connection since Vista. I
am having to roll back a day using system restore almost daily now.

It just conks on me with Vista declaring "no networks available". When I
delve further it seems that it is having difficulties starting a network
adaptor.

Well its finds it alright, it just refuses to connect. i prob am going to
have to buy an ethernet cable and wire up my room if i want to use vista on
the net in my room. its a pain

Try using the WinXP drivers or installation program... just try it.

I am having the same problem, Vista sees my network but refuses to connect to
it. Other computers running XP work fine. The diagnoze problem is totally
usless and the settings are buried so deep in Vista I can't find them again.
I too have had to run an ethernet cable across my room.

Having exactly the same issue; see's my "unsecured wireless network"; the
same one which works fine on all the xp boxes in the house and used to work
fine with my Beta2 vista install, but now with my RC1 install, it claims the
network is "hidden", whatever the he** that means, and fails to connect?!? I
can connect via an ethernet cable, but that kinda defeats the point of the
wireless.

Any progress with your issue?

Can you provide the wireless card hardware id? (in device manager) as well
as the make, model, and settings of the access point?

Additionally, you can turn on wireless tracing by:

1. Launch an elevated command prompt
2. netsh wlan set tra yes
3. Reproduce the problem
4. netsh wlan set tra no (make sure this is still in an elevated command
prompt, and wait for the command to complete)
5. Tracing results will be in %windir%\tracing\wireless

I was reading through all of these posts and found one that helped. I
upgraded the firmware on my wireless router and things seem to be working
fine now. Before it was constant drops, seeing, then not seeing the network.
The firmware update seems to have fixed the problem (I was using a linksys
router with firmware that was over 2 years old, so its not too suprising).
The only strange thing that is still happening is before my wireless card
light was on constantly and now it seems that it lights on and off with
network activity. Maybe a power saving feature....
