Wireless mouse

I have had a MS wireless mouse and keyboard for several years without
any problems occurring. Suddenly, the mouse has developed a mind of its
own and without me touching it, it will move from the right hand side of
the screen to the left, or in the other direction. It will also defy any
attempt to move it at all and stick rigidly to where it had rested on
the screen, then decide that it will move after all.

Frustrating to say the least.

Can any subscriber tell me what is causing this and more importantly,
how it might be cured. Battery strength is said to be 'good' with the
signal quality 'high'.

After shutting down the computer, remove the battery, wait for 60 seconds,
then re-insert the battery or better still a use new battery.
Re-start your pc and see if all is well or if the mouse still has legs!

Are you sure it's YOUR mouse it is seeing? Outside interference perhaps?
My neighbour and I both have wireless networks, and we have agreed on
differing channels.

Would this perhaps be the source of the problem?

Did you clean it? The reason I ask is because my mouse will sometimes do
that, and when I look I'll find very small pieces of hair interfering with
the laser.

I wouldn't think the Wireless network would be the source.
JS stated that the battery might be the cause. The MS software stated
that this was 'good', but I took the advice and cashed in some shares to
buy two new AAA batteries. That appears to have cured the erratic
behaviour.

When this first started, I gave the internals a thorough clean with
meths, but that did not do the trick.

I will keep an eye on its behaviour over the course of the next few
days.

Thanks for all assistance.

Thanks for posting back with the results.
