Hi,

I need some help figuring out why my wireless connection
gets dropped intermittently. Its actually very frequent
once every 2-3 minutes.

I have a compaq presario with a centrino processor. The
OS is windows XP home. I have a DLink router.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot.

Make sure the adapter and the WAP are on the same
channel. I had them on different channels and it worked
for about 2 to 3 minutes and then dropped all day long.
Cordless phones on the 2.4 band interfere quite a bit
I've noticed. Also our microwave knocks out our WAP
completely until it's finished so that's something to
consider. My 2 cents...

I've the run the latest version of Norton Anti-Virus and
it does not come up with anything.

After I get dropped it comes back automatically after 5-
10 seconds. I do not hve a adapter since its built onto
the centrino chip.

Make certain the 802.1x authentication is UNmarked-
Start, run then type in:
ncpa.cpl [ok]
Right click on the wireless connection/ Choose propoerties/
Goto the Wireless Networks tab
In the bottom windows on this page titled 'preferred networks'
choose
your home network name and click on Properties.
Ensure that the checkbox 'The key is provided for me automatically'
is
not checked.
Goto the tab labelled Authentication & ensure that the box labelled
'Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network' is unchecked.
Remove any other SSIDs//networks from the preferred networks list

I also have a Compaq Pressario that I bought my wife for
Christmas. Similiar problems.
2 things you might try:
1. Turn off the Windows service - Wireless Zero
Configuration. I assume you are using non-WPA wireless,
don't download any Windows WPA updates.
2. Some models of the Pressario come with built in
wireless. HP/Compaq has its own drivers for these. If
yours does not have built-in, turn off the Service title
HP Wireless Device (or similiar) as it looks every couple
minutes for the internal wireless. HP, by mistake, left
this on for some computers which do not have wireless
built-in. Only creates a problem when you try to use a
separate PC Card.
