I'm trying to establish a w/l connection using a new
Centrino equipped notebook to a home based wireless
router but I am having difficulty.

Under "Control Panel", "Nework Connections", properties
for "W/L Network Connection", I undertand I should see
a "Wireless Network" tab, but I don't.

Why is my tab missing?

Also, if I double click on "Wireless Network Connection",
everything is grayed out - only option is cancel.

Thanks for any advise avail.

Eric, thank you.

I tried this option but there was no real change. I went
to automatic setting and then started operation.
An "authentication" tab was added to my w/l network
connection properties but still no "w/l network" tab.

Any other ideas?

Best regards,
Tom

Tom,

Make sure you have the latest compatible driver for your network card
installed from the manufacturer's web site. If that doesn't work, try
reinstalling the network card and see if it brings the tab back.

Hi Eric,

Since I'm now using a new notebook (Sony VAIO PCG-Z1WAMP
w/Intel Centrino Mobile Technolgy), I understand that the
wireless card is built inside and has better range than
an inserted older technology card, so no need for using
my older w/l card anymore. True, not true?

I really expected a very easy w/l connection.

I've checked w/my w/l router tech support and they have
adjusted my router settings so an easy connection can be
established. They were surprised as well the tab wasn't
available and no connections could be seen. They
suggested going to Microsoft help for answers/fix.

I will now try to insert my old card to see what
happens. I'm guessing that my company has not allowed
administrator rights to my new notebook which is the
reason.

Any way to check to make sure if I've got rights?

I appreciate your consideration of my issue/frustration!

Thanks again,
Tom
