Wireless Connection Icon Missing - Help

Keith

My operating system is XP Pro. I've lost (or never had), the wireless
connection icon in the "Network Connections page." I'm told I need access to
this set-up a WiFi connection (?)

I'm currently networked (laptop to PC) with a Linksys WPC11 v2.5 network PC
card and it works well. Linksys states this card will work with WiFi (but
gives no XP support to make it operational for WiFi.) Last week while
traveling, I had access to a free WiFi hot spot. My card didn't show a
connection while other laptops nearby connected fine.

Can someone tell me how to access WiFi?

Thanks for you help...Keith

Did you talk to Linksys or did you deduce from the website that there is no
XP support? Please state the model of your laptop. Have you installed XP
SP2?

Linksys states they won't support my problem with XP. Laptop is WinBook si2
(never a problem with any apps.) SP2 was installed monts ago.

1.) Start/Connect To/Show all connections then right click on your NIC and
choose properties and make sure the "Show icon in notification area when
connected" is checked.

2.) Also while you have Network Connections open right click on your NIC and
look at the first word in the list. If it says disable then ignore and get
out your NIC is connected. If it says Enable you are not connected so
enable it.

3.) Check that you are not too far away from the wireless router or WAP.
Second floors weaken the signal it is really a line of sight with some
bounce of the wall but not much. For example I have 1 floor and the PC is
in the next room from the linksys wireless router and I only get 75%
connection even with larger antenae.

I noticed that you cross posted microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics &
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. That is normally grounds for someone
getting on your case.
