Wireless connection failure

I have Windows XP on a laptop. It was working well and connecting to my home
wireless fine. Then one day, it can no longer connect although the wifi is
"on". When I check, I no longer have any network connections nor can I
establish any. I find that I no longer have the small icon in the lower
right corner for wireless, and under system configuration, there is no DHCP
Client, and that my Windows Firewall/internet is not running.
I am not sure any of these facts are pertinent, nor am I astute on
computers, but I would greatly appreciate any help that can get me up and
running again. I have a similar notebook that can connect, and I have tried
to compare the two to determine differences. These are the differences that
I have noted thus far.

To start, there are two things I'd have you check and try .

1) Is your network connection listed in "Network Connections"? If it is,
try right clicking the network connection and choose repair.

2)If it's not listed in Network Connections, I would recommend that you run
Network Setup Wizard again to reestablish your wireless network connection.

Bookman,
Thank you for your rapid response. Unfortunately, I was out of town until
today, so I am sorry for the late reply. I have tried this but it does not
work. I do not have any connections on my computer, and when I ran the
wizard, it did not establish a connection to my wireless. I am thinking that
I am missing something on my start up. This computer was used by my
daughter, and I got this when she got a new one. I erased a lot of what she
had on this, and I am concerned that I am may have eliminated a key element.
The small wireless icon in the right corner is missing. Also, as I view the
start up services, some things are different vs my other daughter's computer
which is identical (they are twins). I have Microsoft service pack 2, and
was wondering if I should re-load this or go to service pack 3. I am not
technically proficient so I would greatly appreciate any help that you can
provide. Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.
