WinXP Upgrade - clean install?

P

Paul D.Smith

Can I perform a "clean install" of WinXP upgrade? I have the Win98 CDs so
was hoping I could simply "insert Win98 CD to prove you own a copy" at some
point. Is this possible?

I presume also that I still need to make sure I have a valid COA for the
WinXP, something to be careful of if I buy second-hand.

Thanks,
Paul DS.

Paul,

Yes as long as that license for Windows 98 is not being used on another PC.
So if you have a copy of Windows 98 that is not in use anywhere else then
you may use it as your qualifying upgrade. Please note once used as a
qualifier for the upgrade it may not be used on another machine as the
license to use it becomes part fo the Windows XP license on that machine.

Yes. There is no difference between an XP full and an XP upgrade cd except
that the upgrade installer looks for proof of ownership of a qualifying
product. As long as your Win98 cd is a genuine Microsoft cd you are fine.
The request for the cd will come up early in the clean install process.
Don't give away or sell the Win98 cd and make sure it is not the copy of
Win98 still installed on another computer.

What do you mean by pre-installed? Did you get a Microsoft Win98 retail cd
or a computer manufacturer's restore cd?

What do you mean by "XP full version"? If you mean a retail box, then does
it say "Upgrade" on the box or cd?
