WinXP SP2 sometimes messes Reboot BIOS Info

I have a recurring problem sometimes when I attempt to restart my machine
from the 'start shutdown' icon. The machine goes thru all of the usual
shutdown processes, and then initializes the reboot process. It's at this
moment that the startup sometimes displays incorrect information about my
Sony DVD-RW/CD-RW drive. When the screen displays all of my harddrives and
other devices it sometimes gives me "RONY ___DVD_RW_DRU-720A..." The correct
value should be "Sony _DVD_RW_DRU-720A"!? This happens sometimes when I use
windowsupdate and/or other applications that require a restart. Is there a
possible resolution to this problem? Thanks in advance . . .

Tom;
That is happening before Windows is starting so the OS is not a factor, it
is a BIOS issue.
Disconnecting the hard drive would help verify this.
You may have a BIOS going bad or a new BIOS battery may resolve it.

Thanks Jupiter, I hope it is just the battery for now, but I will
investigate both
