Hey guys, I have had this intermittent problem off and on for several months
but am now just getting around to actually figuring out what the cause of
the problem might be and how to correct it. When I attempt to restart/reboot
my system after a software update, upon bootup I have my Sony DVD device
changed to something of the following: "rony ______DVD___RW !! DRU-720A" ??
The correct value should be "Sony DVD RW DRU-720A"! This fanageling leads
me to believe that something might be wrong with my current BIOS firmware.
I started to snoop around and found out that the registry is dirty with
prior CD/DVD's that I had previously installed and no longer possess,
including several entries for my current drive? An it appears that you can't
just delete these entries from the registry!??
In the past I could usually get into the recovery console of XP and issue a
FIXMBR to repair the boot sector and be on my way. I tried this again with
this problem and it did not fix the problem. This is just a temporary fix
that I now want to permanently resolve.
MY SYSTEM :
BIOS = Phoenix Technologies LTD (Award (08/02/04)
VER = 6.00PG
MotherBoard = Micro-STAR MSI K7N2 Delta-L (MS-6570G)
MB Chipset = nVidia nForce2 Ultra 400
Processor = AMD Athlon XP-A 2079 MHz(12.5x166) 2800+
