WinXP SP2 Security Center still appears after I check the item

P.C.

Hi,
Because the Security Center cannot recognize ZoneAlarm 4.5 (and I don't want
to update to ZA 5.1 at this moment), I turn off WinXP firewall and also
check "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself." However, the
Security Center occasionally appears after the system boots into Windows,
saying that my computer is under risk (I forgot the exact wording). Then I
have to open the security center again and recheck the item "I have a
firewall solution that I'll monitor myself."

How can I stop Windows security center from appearing after I check the item
"I have a firewall..."?

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated

Thanks

Open the security center.. Click on "Change the way Security center alerts
me" and uncheck the "firewall" box, as well as any other you want.

I've tried this as well, however Security Center continues to
randomly reset both of the check boxes to the original state which
prompts the alert. On booting my PC Its a crap shoot as to whether or
not the alert will pop up. I use a D-Link router with firewall
specifically so that I can monitor all my systems. While not damaging
that alert starts to get very annoying.

There's apparently an SP-2 bug relating to check states in the Security
Center not holding:

I have to go back in and uncheck it- also the same thing happens with the
red shield- i unchecked that and it too keeps coming back with messages

That's serious, in that any loss of user settings is serious.

The only lost setting I knew of was the Status Bar in Windows
Explorer; that's documented, and the mechanism whereby this happens is
understandable. Once you re-apply that setting, it should hold.

Hi

Several others have reported this issue, only way to avoid this
resetting is to disable the Security Center service.

Someone in another newsgroup thread indicated that a Symantec service
was the cause for this behavior on his computer (I can't remember in
what newsgroup though).
