SP2 Security Center - firewall

I have a firewall in my router, so I told the Security Center that I have my
own and will monitor it myself. I also turned off the firewall alert. The
Security Center correctly displays my settings. The problem is that every
time I reboot my computer, the settings are reset and I receive a warning
that my computer is not protected. Is there a way to set these settings
permanently so I don't have to go through this routine every time I reboot
my computer? Thanks

Control Panel/Security Center, click on the "Change the Way Security
Center Notifies Me" link in the left pane.


If that doesn't stick when you reboot, you can do the following:


Someone in another newsgroup thread indicated that a Symantec service
was the cause for this behavior on his computer (I can't remember in
what newsgroup though).

To "solve" this problem, you can disable the Security Center service:


Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.


There is also a Group Policy setting available to disable the
Security Center (Start/Run--> gpedit.msc).

Bill, another way is to make a registry change.

Create a new DWORD value in the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Security Center
DWORD value FirewallDisableNotify
Value data 1

Bill, disregard my post. After further checking after reading a post by
Torgeir Bakken, I have found this setting is not sticking on my system
after a few reboots either. So the only recourse if changing the way
the security center alerts you doesn't work is disabling the security
center service.

I failed to mention that my router is a Microsoft MN-100. Has Microsoft
released anything that will allow the Security Center to recogonize the fact
that I have a MN-100 firewall? Thanks

I believe there is a firmware update for the MN-100. Check on their
support site.

There may be a firmware update for that model, I'm not sure. There is
a firmware update for the MN 700 which is the latest router and the
last they built. By the way, MS is no longer in the wireless hardware
business so the MN 700 is it.

In any event, the new Security Control Center does not seem to
recognize a hardware firewall. It doesn't pick up on my MN 700 but it
does see my Zone Alarm Pro.

Thank you all very much. It looks like I'll just have to reset a few items
whenever I reboot my PC. Not a big deal being that this is the only
"problem" I've had. I appreciate your replies.

It was here - xp.general, and it was Richard Urban who later amplified
it to suggest specifically to do with NAV 2004.
