I am unable to get Windows XP Home to shut down without fussing at me and I
would like some expert advice as to what to do about it.
When I click to shut down my computer, I usually get a box on screen that
says: "End Program - Iexplore.exe." This happens even though I have shut
down Internet Explorer and have checked in the Task Manager window to verify
that no applications are running.
If I let the computer go through its shut-down of Internet Explorer, I then
get a box that says: "This program is not responding. To return to Windows
and check the status of the program, click Cancel. If you choose blah blah.
.. .To end the program now, click End Now."
If I click "Cancel," I get a box that says "End Program - MCI Command
Handling Window." That also goes through the shutdown routine and comes up
with a "not responding" window.
This morning there was a new wrinkle - "End Program - DDE Server Window."
I have tried to find something in the Knowledge Base that might give me a
clue as to what is causing this, but to no avail.
I will appreciate any guidance anyone can give me.
