WinXp Reinstall ?

Is it possible to re-install Xp over an existing copy of Xp so I don't loose
any settings or data? My current installation has become a bit corrupt and I
cannot access it. I did try and use the repair option but wasn't sure how to
use it. If that's an easier option, any noddy guides available?

TIA
