"WinXP x 2 at startup" TIA

After a re-install of Windows XP I have a choice at start-up. I re-
installed in the same place as the previous installation of WinXP. I
have had this problem in the past but have forgotten the method to
right it. Any help gratefully accepted. TIA

the *safe* was is to run msconfig

and have it check all boot paths and remove the invalid entry
