I have purchased a Dell Dimension with Windows XP Professional installed and
discovered that it has the Swedish version only - I feel cheated as I have
the English version on all my other systems and switching back and forth is
horrible. I understand that I have to reinstall Windows XP Professional
English from scratch which is a pain in itself (all files lost) but I can
live with that.

My question is: Do I also have to purchase a brand new Windows XP
professional English OS, or can I install the English version with the
product key that I already have? The Dell support guy did not have the answer
to this, and I can't find anyplace to ask Microsoft since they seem to hate
OEM owners...

You need both an English version of Windows XP CD
and the Product Key that comes with the CD.

I am not sure if your Product Key that came with Windows XP Pro Swedish will
work with Windows XP Pro English.
But, the Windows that came with the computer is OEM and that key will not
work with retail Windows XP.
The different versions are not compatible.

I suggest you return the computer and buy one with the language you want.

I am not sure if FAST will help with the data:

Ian;
Generally FAST is very reliable and not flakey.
My only concern is I do not know how it will work with the change of
language, but I think it will.
