WinXP Pro SP2 -- filmstrip folder view not always available

Steve

Hi

WinXP Pro SP2 plus latest auto-update

The filmstrip folder view option seems to appear and disappear from the drop
down menu at random for different folder on my system even when the current
folder is only pictures.

How do I force filmstrip view if it has dropped off the options for a folder
or configure the folder options not to deselect this option when browsing.

Cheers

In Explorer:
View, Customize this folder
Use this folder type as a template: Choose picture, or photo album etc

You will now have an option under View for Filmstrip.

"Filmstrip" view is only available when a folder is customized as an image
folder. Right click any folder where it's missing, select Properties. Then
click Customize tab and select one of the picture/photo options.

Open folder | View | Customize This Folder | Select Pictures or Photo Album

You can view your pictures as a filmstrip in any My Pictures subfolder or
any folder customized as a pictures folder.

Filmstrip view is available in picture folders. Your pictures appear in a
single row of thumbnail images. You can scroll through your pictures using
the left and right arrow buttons. If you click a picture, it is displayed as
a larger image above the other pictures. To edit, print, or save the image
to another folder, double-click the picture.

This issue can occur because the Filmstrip feature requires that Show common
tasks in folders be selected to view the full functionality.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, select Show common tasks in folder:
1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the General tab, click Show common tasks in folder under Tasks.
4. Click OK.
