How do I know that ALL the drivers will work?

Dell does not provide any XP specific drivers on their web site for this
laptop. Other laptops from Dell do have drivers for XP so they could be
downgraded but not this one.

If you go to the site for the laptop and look at the specifications for the
Vista OS, some of the Vista drivers will work in XP (at least the chipset
ones will.)

You change the compatibility mode in the BIOS. After Windows XP is
installed you install the Intel AHCI drivers and then you set the
drive back to SATA mode. I don't know if the AHCI drivers are
available for your model, up to you to look it up.

Have you tried this yourself?

I have always read that AHCI drivers have to be installed at the same time
than the OS. (F6 when XP installation start).

You can change the controller drivers anytime after Windows is
installed, manually install the AHCI drivers from within Windows then
reboot, that is all there is to it. You will only have problems if you
change the BIOS settings without first installing the drivers. Perhaps
you're thinking of Non-ACPI/ACPI Hals which cannot be changed after
Windows is installed, that is a different thing altogether.
