WinXP Pro - Move user profile?

Is there a simple way to move your user profile (e.g. C:\Documents and
Settings\<User>) to another location (e.g. D:\profiles\<User>)?

A couple years ago when I installed windows, I partitioned my primary
drive into two volumes. One volume is small and is the partition to
which I installed Windows. I use the other partition and a secondary
hard drive as the install location for most all software I use.
Unfortunately, due to the way which certain applications install and
write profile information, my user profile has grown to about 4GB and I
am running out of space on the partition which Windows is installed
(about 500mb free). So, my question, is there a simple way to move the
profile to another partition or drive? Is there, perhaps, a soft link
mechanism I could use? I'm afraid the answer will include an exhaustive
search and replace of profile information in the registry... Any ideas?
