User Profile

I reformatted my C partition due to a virus infection and reinstall the OS
(XP Prof) and created a new profile. I am not unable to access the files I
have in my documents under the D partition which had a password protection. I
can see them but gets access denied when attempting to open.

How can I access these files under the new profile.....I know the password.
Tried adding back the user name bt that did not help. Can I deactivate the
password? How? I had backed up my C drive under this profile................:(

Hey Malke,

Thanks for the quick response. I am still unable to access the folder or the
files as the security option to which you referred did not appear.

I am using Windows Professional 2002 XP SP2.........This is the message I
got when tried to open one of the files directly.

How can I find back the original profile associated with these files? i
could select this at login then maybe i could regain access.

"This message can appear if a file is saved with permissions. Permissions,
also known as rights or privileges, can be applied to a file, folder, or
almost any resource available from a network (printers, shares, files,
databases, Web sites, etc). When a user attempts to open a resource that
requires specific user permissions, this message will appear if the user does
not have the necessary permissions".

Uncheck Simple Sharing in Folder Options>View.

a. The drive must be NTFS
b. In Folder Options - View, uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'. That is
the level used in Home, and for some strange reason is on by default in
Pro, too.

You are very welcome. I'm happy for you, I'm glad I was able to help,
and I thank you for taking the time to let me know.

Now learn how to back up and do it often in the future!
