80gb hiatchi 7200 rpm SATA
gigabyte ga-7n400 pro2 -- nforce2 :(
radeon 9600 pro

i want to install winxp and debian on my sata drive, so im
trying to install windows first on a 30gb partition of my

unformated space.

when i boot from the winxp home cd, it says i have no

any advice will help, thanks.

Hi, you need to 'F6' at the first XP installation screen and load the Sata
drivers from the floppy that comes with the motherboard

I'm having the same problem, and tried F6 and it didn't work. I put the Via
SATA drivers from my motherboard's software CD onto a floppy, put it into
the A drive when prompted. Windows setup said it was loading the drivers,
asked if there were any more, then proceeded with the next step of setup,
but still couldn't find the SATA hard drive, when it got to that step. This
is despite the fact that the SATA hard drive is accessible if I install
Windows into the other (conventional ATA) hard drive. Windows Setup just
does not want to install onto an SATA hard drive.

i got it to work, but the file system got screwed up and i
was having kernel panics and i ended up getting a UATA
80gig, and installing winxp on that, and debian on the SATA
80gig ... everything works fine now. man, SATA is REALLY
FAST...

oh yeah, and i threw out the nforce2 trash and got a kt600
motherboard. that also fixed a lot of everything. i used to
have your board but it was intolerable.

you said..."SATA is REALLY FAST..." Absolutely! It is noticeably faster
than my other HD, which is ATA133 and 7200rpm. I'll be glad when SATA
becomes the standard, which I think will be within the next year.

Hi, glad you've got it working ok. Nothing wrong with either boards really,
only I wouldn't have a KT600 as the PCI/AGP bus isn't locked and more people
seem to have issues with Via chipsets than Nforce....
