WinXP on a Mac network

Hello,

I have a WinXP Pro machine on a Mac network. I need to share a folder on the
Windows machine so that I can backup data from that machine to the Mac
server (OSX). I've shared the folder, and given the "Everybody" group full
access (file system is FAT32), but I am promted for a password whenever I
try to access the folder from a Mac machine.

TIA,
John

Hi John!

When you share anything on Windows to "Everybody", you're sharing to
"everybody who has been authenticated" not "everybody who tries to connect".

If you want to share to "everybody who tries to connect" then be sure to
enable the "Guest" account. Keep in mind that this is very unsecure. Anyone
can come in and browse although he won't be able to access items not shared
to "Everybody". However, just knowing what's to be had is enough to
encourage some folks to try to access items.

I would suggest creating a special backup account that would be used only by
the server for this purpose.

Hope this helps! bill
