WinXP newsgroup "resuscitated"...

T

Tim Meddick

This group used to be very popular when it was hosted on the
microsoft.public.com newsserver. It also seems to be doing just as well
today, while it's hosting has been taken up by the " nntp.aioe.org "
newsservers.

Hope they don't decide to give it the axe with barely a month or two's
notice while nearly two hundred regulars and hundreds of others use the
resource (just like Microsoft did in September)....

Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :)

You have a misconception about the way Usenet works. The newsgroup was
hosted by a network of hundreds of peer servers worldwide. It was never
hosted exclusively by Microsoft, aioe, or anybody.

Doesn't work that way.

I haven't got any misconceptions (except maybe about how I thought people
could resist the temptation to talk "down" to people they don't even have
the first clue about).

I was just being simplistic in what I was saying.

And, as I know for a fact these said groups were not present on
(nntp.aioe.org) before September I think the statement I made ; "it's
hosting has been taken up by..nntp...." will stand.

If you have a specific problem with any content I posted - please feel free
to criticize at your leisure.... I am only too happy to discuss any
shortcomings I may have.

Between then and now....God bless Mr nul

I've been reading this newsgroup on aioe.org for almost a year

Well, we're all human and fallible. How can one resist talking "down" in the
face of such obvious nonsense?

If you really have no clue how newsgroups work, ask, and we'll be happy to
explain.

It's not just nntp.aoie.org that's carrying this newsgroup. I use the
Agent Premium News service and it's there, and I'm sure that it's still
on every other news server that had it before.

It's on Eternal September as well.

These groups were hosted by aioe for quite a while Tim, years...

Tim,

It's unfortunate that some people think they are better than others.

I try to use humor as a way of reaching those that are hurting, going
thru bad times etc.

If they insist on being angry, I just don't answer them any more.
Oftentimes, they will start being civil again.

Have a great day,
Andy

Nearly three years here under different disguises!!! If this shuts down
then rest assured that I or somebody will take up the mantle and host it
using our own funds except some technical advice will be sought from
time to time from learned individuals like yourself, Tim Meddick or
whoever wants to contribute and participate in the project!

Sorry, you were not just being simplistic, you were either being wrong
or misleading. I can only go by your words. It's up to you to say what
you mean.

As I said, you were being wrong. aioe and many other netnews services
have been carrying the Microsoft newsgroups for years, long before
Microsoft discontinued their participation in the network.

I did in my first post, which you seem to NOT be "too happy to
discuss", despite your claim. Apparently that puts you on the
defensive, which was not my intention.

Convenience is the essence of using aioe.org which requires no
registration. BT in UK has all the NG but again you need to be logged
in using their network and so this too is not convenient.

I try to ignore them but sometimes it is not possible. I guess your
approach is better and I will try it sometimes.

What are you referring to? The microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
newsgroup will persist with or without aioe's participation, just as it
always has. aioe is irrelevant in that regard.

If you're talking about setting up your own nntp service... good luck
to you! Sounds like a fun project.

Here in the usa, most isp's have been getting rid of their newsgroups
and servers. Income vs. cost.
However, since most newsgroups are public, the groups reside on
thousands of other nntp servers and services.
It took me about 5 minutes to find an open server after AT&T
announced they would shut down.

You are a friggin Troll and a consummate liar. Go away and get a life.

BTW. Frank is not a terrorist and a mental sick person as you posted in the other
group but a PC user and nutcase who strongly believes in MS. Not like you who uses a
Mac and is so proud of his Linux and Windows and believes that you are Gxd.
