WinXP - MSI Strange Behaviour of

Hi;
Here's my problem, I'm using WinXP SP1, lately when I click on a desktop
icon for Wordperfect 11, WP starts up but so so does MSI installer(I think
it's MSI installer) and tells me it's going to install Autocad 2005(which I
do have installed), if I click on the install "cancel" quick enough the
Autocad 2005 install stops and WordPerfect continues to load with no
problem. Starting Autocad 2005 from a desktop icon starts Autocad 2005 and
nothing else.
This situation cropped up about a week or so ago, many months after Autocad
was originally installed, it seemed to start right after I did some WinXP
critical upgrades(Not SP2),.
This strange behaviour also happens if I try to load Wordperfect from
anywhere else...no other programs seem to be affected.
Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I also have WP11, and issues with the initially generated desktop link seem
come up once in awhile in the WP10-11-12 newsgroups, ever since the Corel
began using an MSI-generated LNK file that cannot be modified and apparently
references registry entries, which it sounds like, in your case, may have
become corrupted.

I'm not sure what you mean by "This strange behaviour also happens if I try
to load Wordperfect from anywhere else," but I presume that you're referring
to the identical initially generated link file in the Start Menu Programs
folder.

Try this. In Windows Explorer, go to :\Program Files\WordPerfect Office
11\Programs (if you used the standard installation folder), right click on
wpwin11.exe, and create a standard LNK file shortcut, then drag that
shortcut (the shortcut file - not the original WPWIN11.EXE file) to the
desktop and rename it WordPerfect 11 or whatever. This has the added
advantage of allowing you to modify the shortcut to add WP startup options
in the future, if you ever want or need to, since the initially generated
desktop and Programs folder shortcuts cannot be modifed. If this works,
delete the original desktop icon.

If that doesn't do it, try asking in the WordPerfect 11 newsgroup. You can
access it through corel.com support or install it in OE using the
cnews.corel.com server, and select the WordPerfect 11 newsgroup.

BTW, I'm using SP2 and WP11 with no adverse interaction. From looking at
tech posts on the WP11 newsgroup, it appears that most users can update to
SP2 without any complications, but that the worst case scenario is that you
may need to reload your printer drivers after installing SP2, which is
normally not that big a deal. Again, ask at the WP11 newsgroup.

Hi Joe, what I mean is doing exactly what you described, going into the

Same thing happens when I create a new shortcut

I'm going to do some reading in that group.
