WinXP Internet Connection

C

Completely Lost

WinXP dual-boot with Win98 on Intel PIV 3 GHz and 1 Gig of RAM.

Hard-Wired NIC directly to the Cable Modem.

In Win98 the internet connection is rock solid.

In WinXP the connection keeps dropping every few minutes for just a couple
of seconds then connects again all by itself.

Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Thanks in advance! :)

Look at the Properties of the nic in Device Manager and make sure that
the box to allow Windows to turn off the device for power savings (or
the equivalent language) is *not* checked. If that wasn't the issue,
then maybe updating the nic drivers from the mftr.'s website (not
Windows Update) would be a good next step.

Check the Properties of the LAC (Local Area Connection).

If an Authentication Tab exists, Make sure that 802 Authentication
is not checked.
