I am using Windows XP Pro and when I go to Explore, I always find the C
drive open with all programs displayed. I do not want that and wonder how I
can make the default of the C drive "collapsed" ?

I have a number of other drives and they all show in the "collapsed" stage,
the way I prefer.

Ritter,

Create a new shortcut pointing to this:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,

I've tried every combination in Article 307856 and nothing changes. Do I
have to restart the computer for these changes to take effect? If not, what
other suggestions are there? RIght now the Target shows %SystemRoot%
\Explorer.exe /e and the Start In shows %Homedrive%%Homepath%

As I stated in my original note I've tried every combination of "fixes" in
the subject KB article all with NO CHANGE in the display. Any further
thoughts on this issue?

Great idea. The shortcut works fine. Thanks a lot.

Can it now be included in the start up?

You can put the shortcut pretty much anywhere, including the "Startup"
folder, Desktop and the Start menu.
