Missing C Drive

D

The drive is intact but its not showing where it should be, on the
desktop in My Computer or in Windows Explorer.
I can access it from Start/Explore but thats not where the shortcuts
direct me.
I'm old and not PC skilled and I've come to hate this thing, but I
need it.

On a previous post I was recommended to download Tweak UI from
Powertoys for Microsoft and to tick (or check) the C drive. After
Install it showed a tick against all A to Z, so I cleared them and re
ticked A C D E but it didnt bring back the display of C drive.

I dont know how I lost it, the PC was v slow running in startup and
when doing click so I was using programmes to virus check and to prune
and clean. I've done lots of searches now but I cant find
any examples of users having this same problem.
So I need help and suggestions please.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I do not understand your problem. C: partition is not located on the
desktop. Please give specific details, ie, I do this and this is what I
see--this is what I expected to see
, and so on

It sounds like you have had (may still have) a malware infection on your
machine which has changed the permissions on the root of the C drive,
such that your user account can't see it. Try booting in safe mode and
logging in as administrator, and see if you can then see your C:\ drive
in My Computer.

You can also try opening a command prompt
(Start > Run type in cmd and press enter)

navigate to your c: drive root
(type c: and press enter, type cd \ and press enter)

and then type the following: attrib -s -h

Then see if your C: drive has returned.

Thank you for your responses, its family holiday time and I've no time
to sit at the PC!!

Normally I access C Drive from My Computer shortcut on the desktop or
from my Start menu (I'm sole user)
My Computer or from Start menu Windows Explorer. The C drive now is
not shown on those three locations.
But If I right click Start and Explore then C Drive is shown in My
Computer.
It was listed as Drives A C D E then Control Pane. Now its Drives A D
E Control Panel and then C
