anyone know if its possible to use a laptop's speakers to output audio
from another source?

basically, i tried connecting my psp up with my laptop, via headphone
jack->Line-in/microphone jack but nothing.
ive made sure that nothing is muted.
i can record sound from line-in.

is there something else that i need to do?

Thanks.

It depends entirely on the soundcard, its drivers and the "soundcard
software". If you can make it work as an amplifer, good for you.
Normally it would be a bad idea due to "audio feedback" issues.

Either the line-in or the microphone should work. You'll need mixer
software running though, I believe.. Real Player requires you to buy an
upgrade to "record mic/line-in" and Mplayer didn't seem to have that option.

Try a Google search for software that will let you do that.

Actually, I would just look here:

One of the free ones:

It depends on the sound device. Most Creative-based sound devices can do
this, and as far as I can tell, no AC97 devices have this capability. You
didn't tell us what kind of adapter you have so I can't get more specific.
