WinXP-AS400-NetBEUI

We have an older AS400 that we were able to connect to a shared portion of
the drive on Win-98 PC's using NetBEUI. Now with Win-XP machines, we are
unable to access that same shared drive. Do I need to install NetBEUI on the
Win-XP PC's or can I change the TCP/IP settings somehow. Any advice would be
appreciated. Thank you.

Unless the AS400 can be configured to use TCP/IP, I expect you will have to
install NetBEUI on the Win-XP computers. I believe the NetBEUI protocol is
available on the install CDs fore Win-XP. Don't know about OEM installs.

To install NetBeui on either XP Pro or Home:-
Copy from Win CD\valueadd\msft\net\netbeui:-
nbf.sys to C:\windows\system32\drivers, and
netnbf.inf to C:\windows\inf (hidden folder).

Then the NetBeui protocol will be available in the Install Protocol dialog.

If you are using NetBT, and mentioned NetBeui in error, then the XP firewall may be stopping you.

If the AS400 can see the XP sharenames but not the files, then you must run cacls.exe on the XP box to assign permissions to the AS400 user for the folders required.
