Unbinding TCP/IP

Joe

For several years, I have been runing a 2 PC WIN 98se LAN (workgroup)
separated from
the Internet by a NAT router. As suggested in www.grc.com I have unbound
TCP/IP
from File and Printer Sharing and from Client for Microsoft Networks and
bound Netbeui to these services to take advantage of the fact that Netbeui
is not routable. Everything has been correctly functioning (there is very
little traffic on the LAN).
I am now in the process of adding a Windows XP Pro PC to the LAN. I have
installed Netbeui.
1: I cannot find instructions for unnbinding TCP and binding Netbeui to
these services for WIN XP . If they are there I
would appreciate it if someone would send me the url.
2: My assumption is that I should continue to use Netbeui for communication
within the LAN and that WIN XP should be treated the same as WIN 98 se
machines.
Is this correct?
3: I can't find the place in WIN XP Pro that will allow me to alter the
bindings. Where is it?
thanks

I've written a web page that should help. See the section "Un-Binding
a Protocol":

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

A key to Windows networking is to use the same single protocol for
file and printer sharing on all computers. Since the existing LAN
uses NetBEUI, you're quite right to install NetBEUI on XP and un-bind
sharing from TCP/IP.

However, in my opinion:

1. A network with a NAT router doesn't need NetBEUI. The router
prevents other Internet users from accessing the attached computers
via TCP/IP.

2. The grc.com web site exaggerates the dangers of TCP/IP and
overlooks simple ways to eliminate those dangers.
