WinXP 64bit

I have XP 32bit. Do I have to buy the 64 bit version or can I just upgrade
with the 64 bit SP2 XP? I read that the 64 bit XP can use more memory than
the 4GB memory limit of the 32 bit version. Also I do not want Vista.

Thank you;
David

Do you have a 64bit capable system?
(The hardware.)

You will have to do a clean installation of Windows XP x64...
You will need to purchase Windows XP x64...

What do you do that you *think* you need more than 2GB of memory for?

If you want it and don't have it, yes.

or can I just upgrade
with the 64 bit SP2 XP?

I don't understand what the "or" is doing in that sentence. No, you
can't do an upgrade. A clean installation is required.

I read that the 64 bit XP can use more memory than

That's correct. The 3GB limit in practice turns out to be around 3GB
for most people.

What applications are you running that make you think you could make
effective use of more than 3GB? It's a very rare person running XP for
whom having more than 3GB wouldn't be a waste of money

I sympathise with not wanting vista, I've just un-installed that steaming
pile myself, but from the point of view of 64 bit operation you'll find it
to be a much smoother experience than 64 bit WinXP in terms of driver
support and app compatability.
