Hello, my boss said he got a message on his computer that said he had an
infected file. It was winssv.exe. He deleted it. Now windows says he needs
it. Would this be on his XP cd? Thanks for any info.

You may have a virus.

Update your anti virus software and run a full systen scan.

When you say, "windows says he needs it", do you mean that a dialog appears,
saying the file can't be found? Or, will Windows not start?

If it's the first, while he has removed the file he has not removed the
registry or startup references to it. Need to run something like Spybot or
Hijack This, plus virus scanners.
