Winsows Defrag Problem

When I attempt to use the Disk Deframenter in WindowsXP, I get a message that
reads "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the
volume: (C:). Please run chkdsk/f." So, I am not able to run the
defragmenter. Now, I seem to remember being instructed to do something
similar because I wasn't getting the Windows "Welcome" screen (without having
to choose an account). Now, when I boout up my system, it goes straight to my
desktop(which I want), but now, whatever I have done to solve that issue, has
caused another problem.

Start > Run and type in "chkdsk /r" without the quotes. When chkdsk is done at the next restart, try defragment.

When the defragmenter tries to move files, if it comes across bad
sectors on the HD it prompts the use to run CHKDSK. You cud-
run, type in to the box - chkdsk /f, ,agree to the question, shut down
and re-start. Then run defrag.
