We have a home pc with xp home edition. The winsocket file was corrupted and
we need to replace. We cannot find backup disk. Is there a way to download
winsocket to this pc, store on cd, and install on family computer. Due to
corruption, we cannot access internet with home computer.

This may work..

Check this information:
How to Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP

If you lost your Internet connection after removing spy-ware
(such as NewDotNet, and Commonname) the following steps will help
restore your connection. This works for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP.

1.) Download WinsockFix.zip. (by: Option^Explicit)

2.) UnZip WinsockFix.zip
3.) Run WinsockFix.exe.
4.) Click the Fix button.

This program will clean up your TCP/IP connection and rebuild the
database.
After the program is complete, reboot
