WINS question

I have setup WINS in my server but have not used it. But how come in
WINS , it already has my computer record ? Pls advise

If it is running then any machine that has the WINS listed in their network
settings will get registered in WINS at bootup.

But does the machine uses WINS for name resolution without pointing
to the wins server ?
