We have a Windows 2000 server. In the WINS database, the status of one of
the entries is "tombstoned". Is it OK to delete this entry? What happened
was I renamed the server and forgot to delete the WINS entry.

Thanks.

You can delete it, but it won't hurt it if you leave it for historical
purposes.

Thanks for your prompt response. Is it OK to delete it and reassign the
same server name and same IP address to another server? Thank you.

As an FYI, it should have just been purged automatically after a while. I don't
recall the time frame but items like that are tombstoned so that the "delete"
can replicate throughout the entire WINS structure. After a period of X days it
will just be removed.
