Will Win 2003 Domain controller takes the current Win 2000 DC role

I want to turn one of the W2K3 server as backup DC to existing 2000 AD. It
prompted to do ADprep when I doing dcpromo on W2K3 server.

If I want to keep the current windows 2000 domain controller as operation
master, and I have no plan to upgrade the server to Win 2003, can I setup
another domain controller as backup but OS is Win 2003 server?

Thanks.

Hi,

yes you can use win 2003 as additional D/C (not a backup as you
reffered),run adprep on win 2000 which has Schema Master roles, promote
your win 2003 server as a addtional domain controller for the same
Domain.

Hi Bhaskar,

With the additional 2003 DC, the operation master role will still remain in
my old W2K DC? Only the AD schema upgraded to 2003. Am I right?

Actually my network has another NT4 domain with trusted to current W2K AD
Domain, as well as Win 9x PC. Is there any problem with the trust
relationship and Win 9x machine login to new W2K3 AD, after the ADprep?
Thanks.
