WINS masterbrowser XP Clients Clients from other domains

Hi all,

I have a "little" serious problem .. (don´t we have all ...)

Network:

Win 2000 Domain (all SP4 --- Servers and Clients)
2 DCs both GC, DNS, one is DHCP and WINS Server

almost everything works fine till ....
a Notebook from a different domain connects to the network.

The book gets an IP address, is told what IP the DNSs and the WINS are
/ is
but ....

These Notebooks wants to be the masterbroswer for the domain they are
connected to and unlogically for me ...they become master browser for
the domain.

I think it´s logical that the "lonesone" notebook wants to become
master browser for IT´S domain cause it can´t find any but why does it
become masterbrowser for "MY" domain ?

Has anybody an idea how to protect my domain against "foreign" master
browsers ?

I spotted another strange thing in the wins database.
All Computers register correctly to the WINS and are signed in the
database but in addition there is an entry like the following:

COMPUTERNAME$ [03h]

I "googled" and searched the MS KB for some hours to get to know what
these entries could mean ... without success

hopefully these posting will help solving my problems ..
please post any suggestion

thannks

Matthias

What's the client OS? If Win98, with file/print sharing enabled, make sure
to turn off the master browser thingy (forget the name) in the network
properties.

The Client OSs are different .. Win98, XP, 2000

AND the major Problem is I don´t have administrative rights for the
clients,
at least the users themselve don´t have sometimes ..

AND
I can´t control WHEN and WHERE they connect to my network.

any suggestions for a well working solution ?

but you agree that this "phenomenom" is the usual way windows clients
act as they are connected to my network, don´t you ?

any ideas about the $ after computername ?
