wins for win98 clients

hello I have a lan with w2k server and both of w2k and win98 clients
If I set the tcp/ip property of win98 clients to dns enable
will I be necessary wins server?

Unless you have multiple subnets, probably not. However, remember that
Win98 uses NetBIOS to locate the domain controller and this can cause errors
when users try to log onto an Active Directory domain. If domain users are
unable to log onto the domain from Win98 machines using the NetBIOS domain
name, you can usually solve this by using WINS. Instead, you can use an
LMHOSTS file - See:

WINS is surely easier than managing multiple LMHOSTS files - and IIRC using
LMHOSTS won't tell all the chatty-cathy NetBIOS broadcast traffic to shut up
as using WINS will....I usually just install WINS anyway, even if I don't
think I absolutely need it. Exchange often likes it, too. No real downside
to doing so in most environments.
