WINS Configuration

Hello

Does any one know the correct way to configure WINS entries on WINS servers,
should the primary or secondary entry point to its self?
There are 10 WINS Servers in the environment all replication with each other
in a top down hierarchy.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

The basic rule is a WINS server point to itself as Primary and Secondary WINS in the TCP/IP configuration.

Each WINS server should point to itself for WINS resolution, and all the
"downstream" servers should synchronize directly to the primary WINS server
for the entire domain.

So, for example, if your primary WINS is at 192.168.1.1, secondary is at
192.168.1.2, tertiary at 192.168.1.3; you would set up 192.168.1.1 to use
only itself for WINS resolution, 192.168.1.2 to use only itself for WINS,
192.168.1.3 to use only itself. The 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 servers
should synchronize directly to 192.168.1.1 for WINS updates. If you do
otherwise you will wind up with some very interesting NetBIOS name
resolution problems between synchronization cycles.
