Winmail.Dat

I use OUTLOOK as my mail client at home (not an exchange server). I often
have the need to send or forward information to myself to be viewed by a web
mail client at a different location.

Sometimes the mail I receive has the winmail.dat attachment, and is not
useable by the webmail client. Other times, it is just fine. The webmail
client can display HTML.

Is there any way to globally turn off creation of winmail.dat without
requiring plaintext only? I have read many articles, and they refer to
Exchange settings.

Simply, I want to be able to send formatted email to anyone at anytime, and
not be concerned about the winmail.dat attachment.

What version of Outlook are you using and do you use a Personal Address Book
with it. Outlook 2000 through 2003 can use a Personal Address Book (.PAB)
file in addition to Contacts and one of the features of the PAB is a
checkbox to "Always send to this recipient in Exchange Rich Text Format", a
per recipient setting that overrides the default message format.

1. I am using Outlook 2003
2. I do not have a PAB
3. The same symptoms occur whether I use a contact from the contacts
folder, or type an address directly into the outgoing message.
