Winmail.dat within exchange

Hello,

I have a problem with a 25 users company using exchange and winmail.dat. A
few users have been reporting that they have been receiving winmail.dat
files. They all use Outlook 2002 with XP. Server is windows 2000.

I have read that Outlook sends a winmail.dat file as data attached to an
e-mail which contains all the text formatting. However people who get this
winmail.dat file are people who don't use outlook and therefore cannot
understand the attachment.

The strange thing is, is that people send people attachments internally and
still get this winmail.dat attachment instead.

So to confirm, User A sends User B (who both have outlook 2002) an
attachment and User B gets a winmail.dat file.

I have had a look at this below, which doesn't really explain why I am
getting them within exchange.

Also I have implemented a converter on one machine which seems to be working
but I don't want to go round and install this on every machine.

I have tested the e-mails by setting them as plain text and have checked the
address book to make sure RTF is not being used. I have also checked this on
the server under global settings to make sure RTF is not being used.

Has anyone got any ideas to why thsi is happening?

Many thanks,

Luke

Sounds like a misconfiguration on Exchange then. Ask in an Exchange
newsgroup instead.
