winlogon.exe encountered a problem and needed to close

When I log onto the computer, I get the message "winlogon.exe encountered a
problem and needed to close. What is going on?

Also, when I push the "log off" button on any user name, the computer
restarts, rather than logging off to the screen with the different users.

Or when I push "turn off", the computer also restarts.

The only way that I can turn the computer off is to turn it off twice.
Once, by having it restart, and then pushing the "turn off computer" button
from the different users screen.

Something is wrong, and I need help to correct it.

The file winlogon.exe should be located in C:\Windows\System32\ and
nowhere else. Some trojans place a file by this name in another
folder, e.g. directly in the C:\Windows folder, or a sub-folder of C:
\Windows\System32\. It may also be named winIogon.exe - that's a
capital i in place of the l. Have you run a virus scan?

I have run virus scans multiple times, but the problem persists. I ran a
search of my computer system, and the only winlogon.exe that I found was in
C:\Windows\System32\. I did not find any winIogon.exe. I would appreciate
any other suggestions.
