winlogin.exe crash continually stopping upgrade

I had the exact same problem as you... trying to install a
windows 2000 service pack but it would always have some
error with winlogin... I posted a message here yesterday
but no one helped ;(

anyways, I figured it out and it's actually quite easy:

restart your computer in safe mode, then install the
service pack...that should work.. it did for me...
