Winfax question before purchase

i dont know where else to place this and there have been alot of posts
in here relating to winfax, so here goes:

I run a business and all of the time we get customers telling us they
faxed something, and we have no record of it. now sometimes they never

sent it...sometimes they sent it upside down and we received it
blank..sometimes we just lost it. I am thinking that Winfax might be a

solution to my problems, but I need to know a few things.

A. can I set up winfax so that I plug my fax line into my comp, it
receives the fax, and automatically prints it out to my printer
(functioning just as a fax machine)
B. can I set up winfax so that it goes into my computer first, then to
my standalone fax machine, printing from the fax machine?
C. In both of the instances above, can I set how the faxes are saves
(ex. all faxes on 04/04 get saved into one folder, then 04/05 in
another, etc)?
D. does it save fax ID # (in case we get a blank fax so I can know who
sent it)?

I'm not sure what you are asking. You can configure Winfax to answer
automatically after a certain number of rings, but I don't understand what
you want from your fax machine.

The receive/send date is shown and you could manually move the faxes into
folders but I don't think you can automatically have it done.

Yes

No could know what you mean by "Winfax." If you are asking about a third
party application, then you are most certainly asking in the wrong place.

Yes, those are some of its most basic functions, AutoReceive and Print On
Receive.

B. can I set up winfax so that it goes into my computer first, then to
my standalone fax machine, printing from the fax machine?

No, not unless your fax machine is also a printer (that is, a multifunction
fax/printer/scanner/phone). And in that case, it isn't faxing it out
again, it's being used as a printer.

You might be able to automatically forward faxes to the standalone fax
machine *if* it is on another line. You certainly can do this manually -
again, only if the fax machine is s on another line. If it's on the same
line, in the same location, I'm not sure I'd see the point.

You can also forward the faxes via email.

C. In both of the instances above, can I set how the faxes are saves
(ex. all faxes on 04/04 get saved into one folder, then 04/05 in
another, etc)?

No, you'll have to do that after the fact. But it's easy to do, simply by
sorting the receive log and dragging and dropping into folders you've
created.

D. does it save fax ID # (in case we get a blank fax so I can know who
sent it)?

If there is caller ID and/or CSID, yes. If those are blank or spoofed, you
may never know.

If you plan to use WinFax with Outlook integration, you *must* get a version
of WinFax that you know works with the version of Outlook that you have.
All versions of WinFax do *not* work properly with all versions of Outlook.

For example, with Outlook 2002, you need WinFax 10.02 or later. For
Outlook 2003, you must have at least WinFax 10.03. If you're planning on
the next version of Office - expect to have to upgrade WinFax too.

If you don't need or want to integrate WinFax and Outlook, expect fewer
configuration or functional problems - just be sure you do not make the
choices to link them.

Do not count on being able to get an older version and simply downloading an
update - IIRC, you'll often have to pay for an upgrade, so buy the right one
in the first place. In the event that Symantec decides you do qualify for
a free upgrade, they'll probably be sending you a CD, and so there will be a
delay. So get the right one!

On the other hand, searching the Symantec Store for WinFax returns one
result - for Norton Password Manager 2004.
