Winfax hangs computer

We use a HSP56 MR internal modem and win fax to receive-only 24 hours a
day. Whenever we receive a voice call on the fax line the line won't
release and shows a constant "busy." To release the line we have to quit
the Winfax monitoring program and let it restart. Then we can receive
faxes. Any ideas? Is there a code that we can use (or take out) of the
modem control string that will solve our problem?

By way of clarification, this is Symantec's Winfax, not Windows fax program.

Sadly, Symantec is the only source for support on WinFax and they mostly
don't; kind of a shame, it was a pretty cool product once upon a time...
